October Programme: 4-day trip to Istanbul, by plane

Istanbul, historically also known as Byzantium and Constantinople, is the largest city in Turkey and the fifth largest city proper in the world, with a population of 12.8 million. Istanbul is also a megacity, as well as the cultural and financial centre of Turkey. The city covers 39 districts of the Istanbul province. It is located on the Bosphorus Strait and encompasses the natural harbour known as the Golden Horn in the northwest of the country. It extends both on the European (Thrace) and on the Asian (Anatolia) sides of the Bosphorus, and is thereby the only metropolis in the world that is situated on two continents.

Day 1, Thursday, 7th October 2010
Departure by SWISS at 9h45 from ZŸrich. Arrival in Istanbul at 13h30. We will be met at the airport by our local guide. There will be a 2-hour sightseeing tour which will take us to the old town wall. We will also visit the hippodrome and later weÕll be taken to our 4-star hotel Elite World Prestige. http://www.eliteworldprestige.com.tr.
Dinner will be served at the restaurant Develi.

Day 2, Friday 8th October 2010
After breakfast, we will start our full day sightseeing tour, which includes visits to the blue mosque, Hagia Sophia and the Topkapi Palace which dates back to 1473.
Dinner will be served at the hotel.

Day 3, Saturday 9th October 2010
After breakfast, we leave for a walking tour through the great bazaar. This is located in the old part of the town, with a labyrinth of narrow lanes and passages. We will also visit the Egyptian (or spice) bazaar, which will fascinate you through its colours and aromas. In the afternoon, we will take a boat trip on the Bosporus. Dinner will be served at the Restaurant Set Balik (fish).

Day 4, Sunday 10th October 2010
Breakfast will be at the hotel. You will have free time to explore the city on your own. In the afternoon, we will be transferred to the airport. Our SWISS flight will leave at 17h15, arrival in Zurich at 19h15.

The CHF 1'590.00 per person (sharing a double room) price for this trip includes: direct return flight with SWISS, 3 nights at the Hotel Elite World with breakfast, 1 dinner at the hotel, 2 dinners at local restaurants, sightseeing tours and the boat trip on the Bosporus, transfers to and from the airport in Istanbul, tips for the guides and drivers.

Single rooms are available at an extra cost of CHF 290.00.
Not included in the price:  all other meals, drinks, airport taxes, and cancellation insurance.

Deadline for registration: 6 August 2010.
