What to do in Zürich

Ski Resorts within easy access to Zurich

What else to do in Zürich:

Our ZIWA members recommend the following favourite winter sports resorts, listed in order of proximity to Zürich:

  • Hoch-Ybrig
Recommended by Helga, Francesca, Marianne and Margaret. Closest to Zürich, above Einsiedeln, about 40 minutes away from Zürich. Good for alpine and cross-country skiing.
"Hoch Ybrig is also quite good. It is nice and close, and the runs are good for all levels of skiers. Beginners can have lessons there too."    www.hoch-ybrig.ch
  • Holzegg
Recommended by Ann. Take the lift above Brunni.
"The drive to Brunni is about 45 minutes. You can ski in Brunni but we always take the lift up to Holzegg. Holzegg has a bit of a micro-climate so they have sun and snow when others do not. The lower slopes are broad and easy. Lunch on the terrace is lovely when the sun is shining."    www.onthesnow.com
  • Elm
A small resort above Glarus. Good for beginners and intermediate skiers. About 40 mins from Zürich on the way to Chur.    www.onthesnow.com
  • Flumserberg
Recommended by Francesca, Caroline, Julia. Good family resort with variety of ski runs, snow boarding and ski rental. Well-organised gondelbahn. Spectacular views and restaurants also worth a visit for non-skiers. About 45 mins from Zürich by car. Free parking.
"Also accessible by bus or train. All areas have ski and cross-country skiing and skating and snowshoe or walking possibilities."    www.flumserberg.ch
  • Bad Ragaz
Recommended by Christine F. Small ski resort close to spa, good for après-ski.
" We have the following favorites: Bad Ragaz, Davos, Arosa and Sankt Moritz."

  • Flims/Laax
Recommended by Sandy, Caroline. Beyond Chur. Small resort towns with all levels of skiing possible, including cross-country. Après-ski activities also numerous.
"It is also a paradise for non-skiers. When the lake in Laax is frozen, there is skating there and they have a great free playground for kids. There is also an indoor rink at the sports center in Flims. There are two very long toboggan / sledging runs, a big cross country circuit, and tons of walking trails. I keep threatening to buy snow shoes, but usually a good pair of hiking boots and some Nordic sticks will get you through. Or, you can take a horse drawn sleigh ride through the forest."    www.j2ski.com
  • Lenzerheide
Recommended by Francesca. Near Chur. Best skiing at Rothorn via cable-car. Good for intermediate and hard runs, and also for snowboarding. 90 minutes from Zürich.
"Starting from Hoch-Ybrig (near Einsiedeln), Flumserberg (on the way to Chur), Lenzerheide, Arosa, Davos and Flims are all possible day trips."    www.j2ski.com
  • Klosters
Recommended by April, Helga, Caroline. Popular and fashionable resort. Many runs for all levels Ð blue, red and black runs. Good lift system. Wide range of après-ski activties.
"Davos/Klosters is a very good area for skiing. It is close to Zurich and has a good lift system."    www.klosters.ch
  • Davos
Recommended by April, Francesca, Caroline. Many possibilities for downhill and cross-country skiing, skating and snow-shoeing. Good for intermediate and advanced skiers. Several different ski areas. Large cross-country track.
"Davos Klosters is also a large area about 1.20 to 1.30 minutes away."

  • Arosa
Recommended by Francesca, Caroline. Picturesque, old-fashioned ski resort for beginners and intermediate skiers and cross-country skiing. Skating, curling, sleigh rides, tobogganing and other après-ski activities are also possible.
"Arosa is also about 1.15 minutes away with the same possibilities (as above)."

  • Lenk
Recommended by Lakshmi. Beyond Bern, close to Adelboden. A small village with easy runs. Good for beginners and children. Non-skiers also well catered for.
"Easy to reach with public transport. Lovely little village where everyone knows everyone else - and the place had one cinema, the only one for miles around! Great baby slopes and I particularly enjoyed the top part of the main slope which had a button lift."
