Christine adds: There are some very nice Strandbäder along the lake in the Wollishofen area.
It is best to avoid them at the weekend and on holidays, though, as they tend to be overcrowded, especially during the high season. I also like the Frauenbadi, on the Stadhausquai.

My favourite Strandbad is the Badi Tiefenbrunnen - it really is beautiful with lovely lawns leading down to the water and lots of places to go into the water, catering for all tastes ie steps, high diving boards, slides, rocks, an enclosed pool, and the restaurant isn't bad either. Anne Z.

Sandy adds: the Badi in Horgen is nice just to hang out. I really like it because they have a pool in the lake so I feel safe and get the nice mountain view. Definitely my favorite lake place. However, if you are into some amusing people watching, Badi Tiefenbrunnen in Zürich can be pretty interesting.

If people prefer to swim in an outdoor pool, the one in Adliswil is very nice with spacious areas to sunbathe. Margaret.

The Kilchberg Strandbad is a great place for a day out. There is an entrance charge but it's worth it for the freshwater pools, sandpit, supervised lake bathing with rafts and diving boards. They also have changing rooms, a good value restaurant and snack bar and you can hire sun loungers. Parking opposite the Lindt factory gets full early, so take the 165 bus. Julia.

Rüschlikon Strandbad is nice too as it's free! They have changing rooms, a sunbathing lawn with some shade, steps access to the lake, rafts and a grill place and snack bar.

Richterswiler Badi Just refurbished and it is a great place to relax and let the children swim without watching them all the time: there is a little sand strand and the water is shallow up to the fence in the water! The restaurant (buffet) is very well-known and again, the view is magnificent. Only to be visited during summer time. Tonny.

Hüttnersee Another family swimming and day out: Hüttner See. Children can play in shallow water and parents can have a drink whilst watching the children. Good lunch available. Small lake.

Also don't forget you can bathe in: Zugersee (close to the main square there is a Strandbad) and Vierwaldstättersee (try the Lido)
