Reach Out

ZIWA's community project looks further afield
Could you help to Reach Out Around the Lake?

Saturday 27 March 2010

Liliana Winkelmann has already mounted several community projects on the left side of the lake, notably in conjunction with the Terre des hommes organisation which has held publicity events in Wädenswil and Oberrieden during 2009. Now she would like to extend her initiative further afield, around the lake of Zurich.

As described in the March 2010 of the ZIWA News magazine, the new venture to involve ZIWA members in the local community begins on Saturday 27 March at the Wädenswil Spring market. Sophia Würmli will be coordinating a stand selling ZIWA Cookbooks and other hand-made items. The proceeds of sales of small items will go this time to the Wädenswil Invaliden-Verband. Would you like to help her on that day? Or donate a tray of brownies to sell?

Liliana's vision extends much further. Already a group is being set up in Meilen to make lampshades out of laminated paper. Would you like to take part? Or could you donate materials? Getting together with a group of friends to take part in a craft or cookery project is always fun and rewarding. Or could you be a local coordinator in your own area? A coffee group could add a productive element to an existing social event. Any creative ideas would be extremely welcome, especially if matched with an offer to help or to start something new.

Reach Out also has another Terre des hommes day coming up on Saturday 6 March in Thalwil, Oberreiden and Richterswil, this time selling oranges outside Coop. Ellen Gormley, Elisabeth Lopez-Rigaudeau and Carmen Vasquez-Prieto will be leading these three activities. They all have boundless energy and would love you to stop by and help out for an hour or two in one of those locations. It's a fun and worthwhile way to spend a Saturday morning or afternoon meeting the local people. This time the appeal will benefit orphans in Haiti.

So if you have a new idea or would like to join one of the existing projects, please get in touch through reachout@ziwa.com. You won't regret it. As Liliana says, To integrate is to participate, and we could all be Helping ourselves by helping others.
